|
|
Jane Hopkins, the woman behind Mumsclub, the thriving online business community for mums, has been honoured for her hard work by receiving a Women On their Way (WOW) award. The all new WOW awards are the brainchild of Jo Cameron, best known for her appearance on BBC’s The Apprentice, and were introduced to recognise women leaders from across the Midlands. Of the nine awards given, Jane was presented The Online Business Award sponsored by finditinsandwell.co.uk. Jane says:
“I am delighted to receive this award. It is fantastic that women in the Midlands are being recognised for their hard work and potential. The success of Mumsclub is testimony that there are many driven women out there today who, despite the economic downturn, are more than ever determined to succeed in business.”
Since its inception in 2007, Mumsclub.co.uk now has over 700 members, all mums in business who use the site as a virtual office to network with other like-minded mums and to find useful business advice and ideas. Jane admittedly has ambitious plans for Mumsclub this year, including initiatives designed to motivate mums to embrace business opportunities available to them...

January 2009 - Nominated and shortlisted for the ‘Women On Their Way’ Awards
|
|
NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED TO FIND MIDLANDS’ FINEST WOMEN LEADERS
Some of the Midlands’ most inspiring women have have been shortlisted for the inaugural Women On Their Way Awards, scheduled to take place this month.
Hailing from both the West and East of the region, the 27-strong group has been broken down into nine categories for the awards, which will take place in Birmingham on Friday, 27 February. The aim is to showcase the very best female leaders of the future from across the Midlands.
The awards are the brainchild of Jo Cameron, best known for her appearance on BBC’s The Apprentice, and Lisa Ibbotson.
Lisa said: “We had a great response to this year’s awards, proving that there are some fantastic women out there. The judges had a difficult challenge to whittle them down to 27 candidates in nine categories, and an even harder task to pick the eventual winners.
Jane Hopkins from Mumsclub.co.uk based in Warwickshire has been shortlisted for the The Online Business Award Sponsored by Finditinsandwell.co.uk
The winners will be chosen at The Women on Their Way Awards’ which will take place at the Botanical Gardens in February.

November 2008 - UPS Local Business of the year 2008 chosen by Theo Paphitis
|
|
Mumpreneur awarded local business of the year 2008 by Dragon!
Jane Hopkins, 34 from Warwickshire has convinced no other than Theo Paphitis of Dragon’s Den to award her business the UPS Local business of the year 2008.
Jane set up MumsClub in 2007 after searching the internet for inspiration when she needed a new direction. Realising there were little resources aimed at mums running businesses around the kids, she set about retraining as a web designer to make it possible and fill the gap.
Today she runs a successful web based business which helps mothers who are either working from home, or have aspirations to. Through online networking, the current membership base of over 600 mums provide each other with essential business and family support.
MumsClub has been to baby shows all over the UK, has published ‘The Business Mum’s Journal’ to showcase many of their members, some of whom have achieved their own successes by making it onto Dragons’ Den and winning their own business awards.
The UPS local business of the year award has come at a great time, Jane says “I’m thrilled to have been chosen by Theo, and with the prize, we can reach even more mums across the Midlands, considering the looming credit crunch it’s a time when we all need even more support to keep all businesses flourishing”.
The prize provided by UPS, the worldwide shipping experts, is a 4 week radio advertising campaign on BRMB which can be heard here. The 30 second advert is based on Jane’s own life, describing what she does from her son’s point of view. Jane says “I felt the best way to grab the attention of other mums like me is to give a snippet of my life and hope that mums listening relate to it.”
The entries are closed and been sifted through by Theo Paphitis's expert eye.
Judge Theo Judging the best business was none other than BBC Dragon’s Den star, Theo Paphitis. As a successful businessman, transforming companies like Ryman the Stationer, Contessa and La Senza into undisputed successes, Theo’s unrivalled instinct for sniffing out profitable businesses made him the perfect choice.

October 2008 - ITV’s This Morning Mumpreneur competition
|
|
Runners up Sharon Ward, Lynn Oakes and Pamela Lowes are all seen here with Claire O’Conner who walked away with the first prize.
All MumsClubbers, they managed to beat thousands of other mums who entered the competition.
They all had to appear live on national TV, on numerous occasions to pitch their ideas to the panel of judges which included entrepreneurs Tim Cambell, who won the first Apprentice; Emma Harrison, Chairman and founder of A4e; and Judy Naake, who brought St Tropez to the UK...
...but only our mums were good enough for the finals and to win! We’re all very proud of them and wish them all the very best! Read more here

October 2008 - Mumpreneur directory launched
|
|
Here come the mums! UK ‘Mumpreneurs’ join forces to beat the credit crunch.
Mums who run their own business contributed £4.4billion to the UK economy with average turnovers of £26,000 (Yell.com 2006). This is a growing trend as mothers who are entrepreneurs are one of the fastest growing business sectors.
MumsClub.co.uk is the thriving virtual community forum for entrepreneurial mums who manage to juggle businesses with the madness of family life, and with potentially tough times ahead forum members have collectively come up with their own innovative way to combat the looming recession.
As a single mum needing to generate an income to stay afloat, Jane Hopkins, 34 from Warwickshire retrained as a web designer, a skill which meant she could fulfil her own need to meet other mums just like her. In no time at all, MumsClub was live and generating interest from the Mumpreneur world. A year on and hundreds of members later they are all determined to combat the credit crunch, together.
With Jane at the helm, they have united to produce a shopping directory of mum owned businesses where they all have a listing and pay a nominal amount which all goes into centrally advertising the site. They have all agreed to spread the word between them to build the greatest network of mums. This could possibly be the ultimate in business networking. Here come the mums...!
